Johnny Ramone died yesterday at his home in Los Angeles, California, three days after the Ramones 30th anniversary concert in Los Angeles, which he had planned along with Arturo Vega, the band's creative director. The celebration was intended to be a two-part party with a New York City event to take place on October 8th,? which is Johnny and Ramones' bass player CJ's birthdays. "Johnny was fully aware of his health situation, " says Vega, "and we discussed what to do in the event of his death. His words were? 'We can't disappoint the fans and all the people that are working so hard on the shows.' "? Following Johnny's wishes,? the October 8th event will take place as planned - at the Manhattan nightclub Spirit, 530 West 27th Street. Blondie, The Strokes, Sonic Youth and others will perform. CJ Ramone and Ramones producer/ collaborater Daniel Rey will form a house band and will play with special guests, including Andrew WK and many others. Original Ramones drummer and founding member Tommy Ramone will read a special message to all Ramones fans. More acts to be announced later. Tickets are $50 and will be on sale Tuesday, September 21st at The Spirit Box Office (212-268-9477) and other outlets TBA.
On October 8, doors will open at 6PM and performances will begin at 7PM.
