The Stage Miami to Ring in 2014 with the Sugarhill Gang, Suénalo, DJs Heron and Self Born
Miami, FL – December 16, 2013 – The Stage Miami will be ending a musically-memorable 2013 on a high note, pairing the fathers of modern-day hip-hop the Sugarhill Gang (performing these days as Rapper’s Delight with Wonder Mike, Master Gee and HenDogg featuring DJ T Dynasty) with one of Miami’s premiere Latin funk acts in Suénalo, plus DJs Heron and Self Born.
“Bringing in the Sugarhill Gang to cap off a great year in live music and hip hop at The Stage just seems right,” says Harold Mazzotti, AKA DJ Heron and CEO of www.AddictiveAffairs.com. “As the first hip-hop group to have a crossover hit, the Sugarhill Gang are widely recognized as pioneers, much as Suénalo is seen as a group that has helped to create a unique Latin funk / fusion sound in Miami. Self Born and I are looking forward to what will be an unforgettable night.”
“We were all very excited to find out we are playing with the Sugarhill Gang on New Years’ Eve at The Stage Miami,” shares Suenalo’s tenor sax ace Juan Turros. “We’re looking forward to opening for them at a venue that has been very supportive of us and live music in general.” When asked if collaborating with the rappers in a live band-MC situation is a possibility, Turros says: “We certainly hope to get that opportunity!”
While best known for their infectious 1979 smash “Rapper's Delight”, The Sugarhill Gang also scored big on the charts with songs like “Apache”, “8th Wonder” and “Living in the Fast Lane”. In 2009, they released their first song in 25 years, a collaboration with DJ Bob Sinclair called “La La Song,” which quickly became a success overseas, securing Song of the Year honors for many European countries including Italy.
Suénalo were crowned the Miami New Times’ Best Latin Rock Band in 2005 and Best Latin Band in 2011; they were nominated for Best Band in 2013. A mirror-image of multicultural Miami, they artfully blend Afro sounds from Cuba and Puerto Rico with reggae, rock, funk, hip-hop, jazz and R&B. Suénalo has been playing in and around South Florida for more than 11 years and have now jumped to the large festival circuit, appearing at events in Live Oak, New York, New Orleans, Pittsboro and Chicago. The group is currently finalizing a fourth full-length studio recording called Keep it Groovin'.
Presale tickets for the evening’s year-end bash are now available online at www.wantickets.com/sugarhillgang for $75 per person and includes open bar, hors d'oeuvres and a champagne toast at midnight. Admission on the day of the event is $100. In addition, the This Is It food truck, the newly-permanent culinary option at the venue, will be selling food on the outside patio that night.
