The Shrine Auditorium comprises the single largest proscenium stylestage in North America with a free standing balcony, providing over6,300 seats and an adjoining 54,000 square foot Exposition Center.
Over the years, the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Center has been selectedas the West Coast location for the American Music Awards, BET Awards,the Grammys, Screen Actors Guild Awards, NAACP Image Awards, theAcademy Awards and performances of the Kirov, Bolshoi and AmericanBallet Theater, as well as the late Rudolph Nureyev. Appearances havebeen made by entertainment greats including, Frank Sinatra, BruceSpringsteen, Liza Minnelli, the late Sammy Davis, Jr., Michael Jackson,Kenny Rogers, the Beach Boys, Linda Ronstadt and Dionne Warwick, aswell as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Hootie and theBlowfish. The Shrine has accommodated numerous movie screenings,variety shows, religious gatherings of all faiths, private shows,location shoots and various benefits and fundraisers.
The Shrine Expo Center has also been home to an eclectic variety ofevents such as auto shows, antique shows, location shoots, domestictrade shows, seminars, conventions, international trade exhibits, avariety of ethnic dances and dinners, baseball card and comic bookconventions, and more. No matter how big or how small, theShrine Auditorium and Expo Center can accommodate any number of events.
The Shrine Auditorium management provides not only its facilities andequipment to clients, but expert service as well, including an in-houseGraphics/Video department and public relations services. Ourstaff consists of accommodating and knowledgeable personnel to assistin all aspects of event planning, including technical, creative,catering, promotional, and security efforts.
Over 60 years old, the Auditorium is recognized as a historicalmonument. The Shrine is privately owned and operated by the Al MalaikahAuditorium Company. The original Shrine Auditorium was completed in1906. On January 11, 1920, the Auditorium burned to the ground. It tooksix years of planning and funding before the new Auditorium wascompleted. Once rebuilt on the same site of the original Auditorium,the facility was unique among the theater structures because of itssize, versatility and unique interior and exterior design.
The Shrine Auditorium and Expo Center is conveniently located to majorfreeways and points of interest. A part of the emerging cultural centerof Los Angeles, the Shrine Auditorium is located across the street fromthe University of Southern California. The Los Angeles SportsArena, the Los Angeles Coliseum, Exposition Park and Museums, shoppingand theaters are all nearby. The Shrine is also within a fewmiles of Dodger Stadium.
