Everyone welcome the newest club to New York. System, slated to open in Long Island City (opening night on Saturday April 9th) under the musical direction of John “Jellybean” Benitez, is an 8,000 square foot facility boasting a brand new sound system by Shorty dubbed “The Slammer.” System had been announced by Shorty months prior on the Wave message board
THE SBS SLAMMER IS COMING TO NEW YORK, 3 NEW ROOMS but he had been tight lipped about any information pertaining to the club until releasing a few shots of the space in early January. System also brought on designer Ray Trosa and his Sir Décor Designs team to design the space. Along with LMF Builders, Ray and Sir Décor Designs are responsible for building some of the hottest clubs in the city right now including 1OAK and Gold Bar.
THE VENUE located at 32-10 37th Avenue in Long Island City, is the site of a previous club named “Sarabanda.” The club was primarily a salsa and meringue joint, but from reviews on Yelp and other websites, many people said it was unsafe, which may or may not have something to do with it not being there anymore. Whatever the reason, the club was completely gutted and rebuilt from scratch. The dance floor was ripped up and re-done with a floating dance floor (signature SBS). Jellybean Benitez has been brought on and will be the musical director in charge of bookings. The man is a legend in his own time, having ran some of the most successful parties New York has ever seen, and remixed some of the biggest artists on earth (including Madonna who he is still close to this day). He also runs the very successful record label Jellybean Recordings.
To boot, System By Shorty was hired to design and implement the sound system in the space. For those not familiar with Shorty, he is behind some of the best sound systems in the world, including the original Stereo Montreal and Twilo (just to put things in perspective). So yea, the man knows how to build a pretty damn fine sound system. Shorty has also posted up a few pictures on his Facebook page (see left) of the system and the space, but most of us will have to wait until the beginning of May to see and most importantly hear the system in action.
Designer Ray Trosa and the Sir Décor Designs team have been commissioned to create SYSTEM, an 8,000 square foot Dance venue (32-10 37TH AVE. LONG ISLAND CITY). Mr. Trosa has joined forces with longtime friend Craig “Shorty” Bernabeu, a 5 time club award winner for his “SBS” sound systems.
Shorty has been in the audio industry since 1985. His career spans the globe and includes creating some of the finest award winning sound systems ever available to nightclubs including Twilo, NYC, Splash Bar NYC, Club Stereo, Montreal Canada, Lotus Sound Bar, Honolulu Hawaii, Gspot, Shanghai China and Club Stereolab, Singapore to name a few.
His work has been featured in many magazines across the globe, including the front cover of Club Systems International Magazine on many occasions. His systems have received praise world-wide by notable DJs because he has been able to achieve breakthroughs in sound reproduction that go beyond traditional and deliver musical fidelity that is both accurate and rich in realism and emotion.
THE DESIGN for SYSTEM incorporates many high tech features; be prepared to be amazed! Let’s start with a one-of-a-kind high MEC LED bar to draw the masses and an elevated stage for performances. The DJ’s cockpit offers the ultimate DJ experience, including an interactive video wall behind the DJ booth on stage that continues along the VIP wall, all cleverly concealed behind 2 way mirrors. Add that to sound proofing, mirrors, customized plush banquettes, 2 levels of VIP seating and a one of a kind floating dance floor! This venue is built for dancing but with the comfort of our guests in mind, so you can safely wear those stilettos and dance the night away!
For our VIP guests, a private entrance whisks you away to your favorite table in the VIP section ensuring quick customer service and hassle free processing. Dance boxes outfitted with LEDs will lend themselves to sexy performers throughout the evening. SYSTEM is built with an independent lighting booth for a self-contained experience where the lighting tech can work his magic on over 14 moving head lights, an integrated visual system, laser show, and all the bells and whistles you can handle (don’t want to give it all away).
To carry out his vision Mr. Trosa enlisted his team at LMF Builders to help turn his vision into a reality, a contracting company well known within the hospitality industry for building late-night hot spots including 1OAK, Gold Bar, Kaine, Puff Daddy’s, Justin’s & 9 Restaurant NYC
No venue is complete without the proper management, so Mr.Trosa custom-built a management team from the former Mansion New York as well as a top crew of bartenders, waitresses and staff. SYSTEM will be outfitted with a top notch security company within the hospitality industry and top promotion companies have also jumped on board to give their long time followers the chance to do what they LOVE — DANCE. He believes a great team is necessary for the success of the venue. We all know people like familiar faces, but even more importantly; proper service, professionalism and courtesy speak volumes. Only a team that has worked together before can share that common vision and deliver that level of performance."
THE SPACE The club will have it’s opening night on Saturday April 9th with music by DJ Louis Dee of Miami. Friday's and Saturdays will be geared towards the mainstream crowd while Sunday will be for the more dedicated house music folk. Detailed line ups will be released in the forthcoming weeks.
SYSTEM is slated to launch on Saturday April 9th. GET READY TO DANCE!!
